Civil Engineer

Civil Engineer 
 
Purpose 
 
Responsible for the civil engineering portion of a project, requiring application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria. Lead or assist on projects and may assign work to other civil engineers. 
 
 
Essential Functions 
 
• Prepare estimates for bids and manpower forecasts. 
• Prepare engineering design basis and develop scope of work. 
• Coordinate work with other disciplines, Project Manager and Client. 
• May designate participants on project site visits.  
• Prepare Civil Engineering related specifications. Review and edit as needed. 
• Prepare requisitions for quotation/purchase of Buildings, Site Survey services and Geotechnical Investigation. 
• Evaluate bids and recommend vendors. 
• Review and interpret Survey data provided by others. 
• Evaluate/perform cut and fill calculations and provide site drainage design. 
• Review and interpret Soils Reports. 
• Perform or review foundation calculations using standard techniques and company provided software. 
• Review or perform structural analysis using commercially available software. 
• Prepare design sketches as needed for drafting. 
• Prepare engineering change orders and updates in scope of work. 
• Monitor engineering design schedules and update manpower reports. 
• Review/check engineering drawings per company procedures. 
• Prepare/ review bill of materials. 
 
Experience 
 
• More than 15 years of Civil Engineer experience, including design and construction of civil infrastructure associated with natural gas compressing and oil pumping stations. 
• Additional experience in the petrochemical industry is desirable. 
• Well versed in computer systems in an engineering environment. 
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
• Should be familiar with ACI, AISC, ASCE 7, UBC and other pertinent codes.  
• Project Lead experience & supervisor of other civil engineers a plus.  
 
Education 
 
• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, minimum. 
• Registered P.E. preferred. 
 



GAP Program

Gulf Interstate Engineering, located in Houston’s Energy Corridor, serves the worldwide pipeline industry providing project management, engineering, procurement and construction management for hydrocarbon transportation systems from the wellhead to the export terminal.  
 
Gulf places new and recently graduated engineers in the GAP Program, which was developed and launched by Gulf in 2002. The goal of the GAP Program is to provide the future leaders of our company with the experience to excel in engineering or project management roles. 
 
The GAP Program starts by placing the participant in our Engineering or Project Controls Departments for a period of eighteen to twenty four months. During this time, the participant receives on the job training in a teamwork and mentoring environment. These activities require the incoming participant to interact and communicate with team members from other departments.  
 
Gulf supports the utilization and training of the most current and productive software available. The commitment extends not only throughout the Engineering and Project Controls Departments, but also throughout the company. 
 
The GAP Program exposes the incoming engineer to many activities of the company and pipeline engineering industry. This exposure gives the GAP participant the information required to decide their career direction and goals while building lasting relationships with other GAP engineers and other coworkers.

Mechanical Engineer

Mechanical Engineer 
Scope: 
Experienced mechanical engineer who will lead or assist on project teams designing pipeline pump stations, meter stations or natural gas compressor stations both domestic and international in scope.  
 
Requirements:  
• Minimum of 10 years experience in the design of liquid pipeline pump stations, meter stations and/or natural gas pipeline compressor stations. 
• Strong working knowledgeable of piping systems design, P&ID's, PFD's, site layout and material take offs. 
Education: 
 
BS in Mechanical Engineering, PE preferred  



Mechanical Engineer - Pump Station

Mechanical Engineer – Pump Stations 
Responsibilities: 
Experienced mechanical engineer who will lead or assist on project teams designing oil and liquid pipeline pump stations 
Requirements:  
• Minimum of 10 years experience in the design of oil and liquid pipeline pump stations 
• Strong working knowledgeable of piping systems design, P&ID's, PFD's, site layout and material take offs. 
Education: 
 
BS in Mechanical Engineering, PE preferred  



Pipeline Engineer

Pipeline Engineer 
Essential Functions: 
• Responsible for engineering oversight of all pipeline related work products (calculations, design, specifications, etc)  
• Provide system capacity and optimization analyses for oil and gas pipeline systems  
• Develop cost effective, conceptual designs for both proposed and existing pipeline facilities  
• Assist in the development (review and comment) of Project pipeline specifications  
• Assist in the development and implementation of organizational processes and procedures and will assure compliance with approved processes and procedures 
• Participate in project cost estimate and manpower requirements.  
• Take lead or assist in coordinating oil and gas pipeline design and development with other design disciplines  
• Check design compliance and assure compliance with applicable codes, standards and client specifications  
• Perform detail design, material selection and specification; mainline block valves; scraper traps  
 
REQUIREMENTS:  
• 10 + years of experience in engineering discipline including: 
o Onshore oil and gas pipelines (domestic or international) including route selection 
o River and water body crossings 
o Hydraulic calculations and modeling experience utilizing both transient and steady state modeling techniques 
o Pipe stress analysis and hydrotest requirements 
o Operational experience with compressors and pipeline systems and HDD experience a plus.  
Education: 
Bachelors Degree in Engineering or related degree. PE preferred. 



Project Control Specialist

As a member of the Project Controls team at Gulf, you will conduct cost planning, monitor cost and schedule performances of projects, and prepare internal and external reports. Additionally you will be responsible for project revenue maintenance, cost/schedule integration; earned value analysis, and utilization of company standard WBS for project scope definition. The successful candidate will also perform change management activities necessary to assist with the development and tracking of trends, and preparation of change order requests. Excellent communication skills are necessary for appropriate interface with clients, engineers, and contractors on matters affecting project schedule, cost, progress, forecasts, and overall project status.  
 
Bachelor’s degree in business, science, engineering or equivalent is required. 3 years of directly transferable experience in Project Controls positions in a multi-project, engineering/construction environment. Working knowledge of MS Excel and MS Project is required. Primavera P3/P6 is preferred.

Project Manager

Project Manager 
 
Scope 
 
Direct all aspects of the project to ensure it is executed on time, within budget, and in compliance with contractual requirements. 
 
 
Essential Functions 
 
• Develop project schedule and plan of execution. 
• Monitor all expenses and budgetary spending. 
• Monitor project compliance. 
• Function as primary source of contact with the client. 
• Direct, evaluate and coordinate the actions of the project team. 
• Develop a staffing plan adequate to meet project needs. 
• Review all drawings, specifications and quotations. 
• Responsible for all training, employee evaluations, and manpower issues on the project. 
• Fully accountable for the success of the project. 
 
 
Experience 
 
• 5 - 15 years of experience in engineering, with at least 5 years experience in project management. 
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
• Experience dealing with clients 
• Knowledge of engineering computer software programs. 
• Strong leadership and motivational skills. 
 
 
Education 
 
• Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering. MBA preferred. 



Technical Writer

 
Purpose 
Provide writing and editing support for the company as a whole, particularly the Business Development and Engineering groups. 
 
Essential Functions 
• Provide writing, editing and formatting of business development documents, such as project case histories, project descriptions, and project news releases to help market the company. 
• Work with engineers and technical specialists to understand the details of a project and prepare comprehensive documents based on the gathered information.  
• Prepare and edit project articles for publication in professional journals. 
• Assist in the preparation of Proposals and Prequalification documents. 
• Update and report from the Project Experience Database. 
• Provide writing and editing of project, engineering, and office procedures, manuals and reports.  
• Maintain awareness of new writing and editing procedures of documents.  
Experience 
• Effective communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of personnel. 
• Good command of the English language and technical knowledge of oil and gas engineering a plus. 
• Excellent writing and editing skills. 
• Excellent computer skills. 
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. 
 
Education
